SHIP DESERTER
Magistrate’s Comment A sentence of one month's imprisonment was imposed on James Alfred King, ship's steward, aged 21, when he appeared before Mr. Luxt'ord, S.M., in the Magistrates' Court, Wellington, yesterday, charged with deserting liis ship at Wellington, on November S. A representative of the shippintr company said that King '.>as one of eight men who deserted tlie same ship. Such wholesale desertions bad a disturbing effect on the rest of the crew. He asked that King be dealt witli severely. In reply to a question Io the magistrate as to whether it did not occur to Idm Hint lie was doing a national Service by serving on a -hip.
