Wellington Team For National Event OLYMPIC CEREMONIAL Athletic enthusiasts arc looking forward keenly to the New Zealand ehampionships, which are to be decided on Friday and Saturday next at the Basin Iteserve, Wellington. This meeting, which is being held in conjunction with the Centennial Exhibition, will wee the best, of the Dominion's athletes in action, and file Wellington Athletic Centre is doing everything possible to make the meeting a success. Gilmore, of the Kiwi club, will be in charge of the team. The ci tv members are asked to assein- i ble at Hataitai Park at 0 p.m. tomorrow. Olympic Ceremonial. Heats mainly wiil be held on Friday evening, and the opening ceremony will take place on Saturday. Teams will fall in on the ground at 1.40 p.m., ami after a fanfare of trumpets there will be a march past for the Speight Cup. After another fanfare the oath of amateurism will be taken, V. P. Boot having been selected to take this oath on behalf of all the competitors. Another fanfare will be the signal for the release of pigeons, after which the Legion of Frontiersmen's Band will play the teams from the arena. In addition, there will be a victory stand, where the place-getters will go after each champions-liip event has been decided to receive their' medals. During the presentation the provincial flags of the place-getters will be flown from the masthead alongside the stand, and the public will be invited to stand and pav homage to each winner as he receives 'his medal. Mr. Phil Thompson has been appointed organizer of the ceremony and march. All past New Zetland athletic champions are to be invited to attend the meeting as the guests of the centre, and they will obtain their tickets by writing to the centre secretary. It. is hoped that there will be a sumcient representation of ex-champions to permit of their leading the parade of competitors on the second day. 'l’he Governor-General, Lord Galway, has been invited to attend and address the gal liering. T. Allen, the Dunedin runner who was in the team which made an attempt on the foiir-mile relay world record at Masterton recently, is not a member of the (Hugo team for the championship meeting.' He is- reported to have broken down ag.-iin. ankle trouble, which curtailed his appearances last season, being the cause.
