New Brighton Municipal Band For nianv years tlie New Brighton Municipal Band has earned a reputation for its service in playing at tlie various hospitals, homes and institutions in and around Christchurch. The band, which does not undertake contest work, is kept busy with |>aid engagements. and. to provide a break for the bandsmen, a visit of goodwill is now being (mid to Wellington. Behind tlie visit lies two years of saving and organization, as tlie band is paying all its own expenses. Mr. J. A. Nuttall lias been conductor of tlie band for the past 20 years. Tlie band began its round o£ visits to institutions and homes by travelling to tlie I’orirua Mental Hospital, where a bright mid varied programme was given to a very large gathering of patients. Mr. Mackay, returning thanks to tlie band on behalf of tlie inmates, said tlie visit had been much appreciated. If was tlie lirst lime a baud mid visited the institution for more than 1montlis. Mr. E. L. .Smith, mayor of New Brighton, ami president of tlie baud, said tlie visit had given tlie band a great deal of pleasure. They will (day nt the Wellington Public Hospital this afternoon and tomorrow r.ight wiU visit Mount Crawford Prison. At 230 p.m. on Wednesday the band will pl iy at the Home of Compassion, and at 8 p.m. will give items in the Dominion Court at tlie Centennial Exhibition. The bandsmen will later be entertained by tlie president, Mr. Sullivan, and the directors of the Exhibition Company. They will return to Christchurch next Saturday.
