NEW LEADER ARRIVES
Salvation Army Work In New Zealand CAMPAIGN OF VIRILE EVANGELISM (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUOKLANX), March 3. Lieutenant-Commissioner J. Evan Smith has arrived from England to take charge of the work of the Salvation Army’ in New Zealand. He is accompanied by his wife and son. Saying he was delighted with his New Zealand appointment, Lieutenant-Com-missioner Smith recalled with pleasure the visits he had made to the Dominion in 1920 and 1924 in company with General Bramwell Booth. “I want to lead the Salvation Army here in virile evangelism," he said. “It seems to Die that the time is ripe for the rebirth of a spiritual and religious life which would remould society in a way that no less potent force could do. 'l'he army’s business is to make the people realize that the religion of Lord Jesus Christ will achieve greater results than the doctrines of Nazism, Fascism or Communism.” Koi* many years Lieuteiiant-Uommis-sioncr Smith'was private secretary to General Bramwell Booth. He later beeanie chief secretary for the army in South Africa and for the past three years and a half has been territorial commander for Wales and tho Western territories.
