Centre Road Barriers A good deal of surprise has been expressed bv Wellington motorists al the disclosure of a sharp division of opinion on the City and Suburban Highways Board of the efficacy of centre physical barriers on the Hutt Road, and in Ngahauranga Gorge. From iutiulriiw made among motor-car drivers and owners, there appears to be a consensus of opinion that the Slain Highways Board hasi done a great service by‘installing these barriers. That between Ngahauranga and Petone, many say, was just the thing to prevent many of the head-on collisions which liave occurred on the road.
Insurance of Board Members. A decision to take out personal accident insurance policies to cover members while engaged on the board's business was made at a meeting of the Tanpiri Drainage and River Board. Under the Statutes Amendment Act, 1939, county councils ami dra.itiage and river boards are allowed to take out policies to cover members. Recruiting With Pamphlets. To further the campaign for recruits for the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, machines of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Hew over Auckland city and suburbs on Friday night scattering some thousands of pamphlets drawing attention to the nation's need. The main targets of the planes were the shopping centres of Queen Street. Karangahape Road, and Newmarket. The popularity of the horse .as a means of transport among the children attending Ostend School has been recognized liv the Auckland Education Board, which recently advised the secretary of the school committee that the Government had approved of a grant, for the purchase of a grazing area. A section alongside the school building has been selected.
