Ceremony Of Lifting- Tapu Performed By Telegraph—Press Association. WHANGAREI, January 31. No woman was allowed to cross the threshold of the Centennial Runanga at Waitangi till the tapu had been lifted by ti chief. 'Die ceremony of lifting the tape was performed by the Ngapuhi chief Kauere, of Otawa, near Kaikohe, in the moonlight, yesterday morning. The honour of being the first, woman to enter the sacred portals fell to Whina. recognized queen of the Pangarurtt (North Hokianga) tribe.
