ATHLETES SHOW FORM
Graded Scratch Meeting BOOT’S SMART TIME The Wellington Amateur Athletic Association's graded scratch meeting at Hataitai Park on Saturday showed that Wellington athletes are now striking better form. There is-a long list of big events for the next two months, and conscinetious training is beginning to bear fruit. V. P. Boot ran three-quarters of a mile in 3.10 3-5 us part of his, training for the big mile event, the I'our-mile relay and the centennial invitation mile. As he was virtually unpaced this was a very sound effort and showed that Boot is right in form. He will go to Trentham on Thursday, and it is to be hoped that camp life does not take the edge off his running. G. Quinn and C. Robinson had a line tussle in the quarter-mile, Robinson just beating Quinn to the tape. The time, 51 3-5, was quite fair considering the dead track and the breeze. J. Sutherland won the 100 yards impressively. Sutherland has been out of action for more than a year, and this was his first race this season. He beat G. Quinn in 10 1-5, and looked as if he could do it again with little trouble. Sutherland has not reterioated during his period of inaction.
Apart front these particular efforts racing was good, and despite the absence of the provincial team in Christchurch A was the best meeting held at Hataitai this season. Wellington has been well treated in the allocation of important meetings in the centennial year, and local athletes are making an effort to see that the laurels do not travel away.
