UNCERTAINTY IN SWEDEN

Possible German Plans AMERICANS ADVISED TO LEAVE (Received January 26, 8.40 p.m.) LONDON, January 25. The “Daily Mail’s” Stockholm correspondent says that the United States Minister, Mr. Frederick Sterling, has circularized Americans throughout Sweden urging them to return home. It is believed that the reported troop concentrations in northern Germany and Sweden’s defence preparations have influenced the decision. The circular particularly urges the withdrawal of women and children, adding that, while the situation “is not immediately dangerous, nothing can be foretold.” A report from Copenhagen stales that 5000 men who were liable for military service in Denmark in 1035, but who were then exempted for various reasons, have been ordered to report on February 1.
