CENTENNIAL BALL AT LOWER HUTT

The centennial ball held at the Horticultural Hall, Lower Hutt, provided a fitting climax, in the evening, to the centennial anniversary celebrations held during the day, when the Wellington Provincial Memorial was tormally opened on the Petone The ball was organized by Mr. K. >MlUwell. Christchurch, who was visiting Wellington. Mr. Stillwell felt it would be a happv idea to celebrate an occasion of such historic importance to the province in such a manner. The large attendane included many visitors from Petone and Wellington. The stage, where an excellent band was stationed, was tastefully ated with stands and bowls of beautiful pastel-shaded hydrangeas, and the long supper table was similarly decorated. Mr AV. J. McKee was the master of ceremonies. The centennial monte cai io was a delightful feature of the evening’s programme, the divisions being Wellington, Petone, Lower Hutt and Eastbourne. The prizes included a mug on which was inscribed. IS4O- - aud a picture of the Exhibition.
