WANGANUI TROTS

Strong - Visiting Teams

Dominion Special Service.

WANGANUI, January 18.

A feature of the fields for the first day of the ’Wanganui Trotting Club's meeting which opens on Saturday and concludes on Monday, Anniversary Day, is the large percentage of horses handicapped who have paid up. Tlie northern contingent includes Tsana, Amywin and Cluidic, well fancied candidates in the Wanganui Handicap, while in addition to Amywin, Grand Finale and Envious are in the Morton Memorial Handicap.

Chudie hat) done most of his recent racing as a trotter with success, but before changing over he was a fine two miles pacer. Tsana raced at. the last Auckland meeting, displaying slaying. Amywin was unplaced at two miles but not discredited as she set the pace in a fast-run race.

Envious, now in Stewart's stables, ran solid races last, year .at Greymouth auu Nelson and his win at. I he JaUer meeting showed him to be a sprinter of no mean ability. Of those in the minor events Bingen’s Best won nicely at Cambridge. Prior to her success her best effort was nt the last Wanganui meeting. Kcwpic's Jewel, though unplaced lust Saturday at Chinbridge, has recently been three times second, putting up a line performance on each occasion.

Young Parry, a former Stewart representative, was responsible for a line effort in being second to Narbada in the Captain Cook Handicap, and should be benefited by the race, and may give E. N. Kennei'ley an early return.

Liiinvabon has raced mainly at> a trotter, last year winning several events, but in other races gave mixed displays. In tlie spring, F. J. Smith raced him as a pacer when he showed a good deal of promise, to finish second in (lie Campbell Handicap after a very slow beginning. Captain Scott's form last season was of a very useful nature, indicating that he would reaclj n high standard wilh more racing. At Hawera he won the I'nleii Handicap off a 3.1 in 2.47. Bv Jack Polls—-Bessie Logan, Captain Scott lias excellent, breeding. Solid Novice Facers. The novice contingent represents a useful lot, wilh Neou Oro having earned sullieient in place money for a .12 yards peniilly. Maratua lias minor placings to her credit, ami one of her best efforts was in following her stablemate, Excel, who was Second Io lie-pose at Hamilton, home for t'hird money. Winter in the same stable is also a product of Peter Bingen, but she has not had quite as much experience as Miiratdn. She has a good turn of speed, which may be very useful when she develops race eoulidenee. Scotty Direct gave a lot of promise earlier in the season, but. a mishap put him off the scene for some time, lie reappeared at Cambridge, where he ran a fair race, on which he should «oou improve. Blue Crest is gaining experience, and may soon reveal his good track ellorts in a race. Doll Polls is a good-looking mare who may not lie long in showing form. Bournemouth only joined Kennerley’s si.-ihie a few weeks ago. Taken all over the fields are particularly well balanced, and given fine weather the Wanganui club should enjoy a sueeesst'ul meeting. An innovation this year in Hint women are being admitted free. The totalizator will be run on the single pool system, and the first race starts at 1:2.15 p.m.
