Motor-Boat Capsizes
TRAGIC END TO CAMPING
HOLIDAY

CHRISTCHURCH, January IS.
A tragic ending to a camping holiday occurred in Akaroa Harbour yesterday, when a married man and his younger son were drowned after their liome-made boat lead sunk about 200 yards from tlie shore. Tlie other occupants of tlie boat, an elder son and ids mother and a Maori lad, reached the shore safely. Those drowned were Andrew James Dykes, aged 36, company manager, 45 Cholmondeley Road, Opawa, and Kenneth Edward Dykes, aged 51 years. The tragedy occurred at a small inlet. The family, who were camping ar Wainui, had been fishing in the baj’ from their motor-boat, which: was home-made of iron and had a motorcar engine. They reached tlie entrance of the bay on tlie return journey when trouble developed and the boat overturned. The elder son, James, aged 14 or 15, assisted his mother to the shore, and the Maori boy, AV. Timothy, swam to safety.
