A GAME MARE

Sleeveless Wins Last Race Sleeveless, favourite for the concluding mile, won narrowly but meritoriously Cor she made all the running, ami fought oft challenges from Haughty Winner and Yogi in most determined style. Man Sleeveless in the running was Baran, but he weakened just after leaving the false rail, where Haughty Winner and Yogi, who had not been prominent early, moved forward. Sleeveless, wlto bad been doing it. well all the way, nad to be ridden right out to hold off Haughty Winner, while Yogi was almost in line in the closest finish of the day. Paper Slipper, always lying haufiy to the lending bunch, was fourth, and the best of the others were Boldstep,. The Wrecker, Baran and Nereus. Yogi did not get too good a passage, and was possibly unlucky, but the winner is a solid mare who enhanced her already fine record of gameness in a tight finish. Haughty Winner improved and nearly won, coming from a long way back. Paper Slipper ran a creditable race. Full Hand lost his chance early, failing to go with the others, Rarotonga and Gay Mimic also being slow to find their feet. Full Hund ran up prominently round the home turn, but the effort left him without a finishing run. Flammarion, Solaria and Galteemore were prominent for a good way, and Lady Leigh was in a good position to the straight.

Sleeveless was bred by Mr. E. B. Newton, ami is owned by Mr. A. F. Symes, Hastings, being raced on lease by Messrs. A. Katranski, Hastings, and B. N-ius-baum, Palmerston North. She won her first five races c.i cud and ran second in the Stewards’ to Beaulivre. In all her races she Ims shown herself one of the gamest that ever looked through a bridle.
