Edison's Life Story In Two Films

THOMAS EDISON, the great invenX tor and pioneer of motion pictures, is responsible for a screen, innovation, though he has been dead for some years: a two-picture biography. The film story of his life will be done in two movies, with Mickey Rooney playing Edison as a boy and Spencer Tracy playing the man. The two parts of the biography will be made as completely separate pictures. That.is, it won’t be necessary to have seen the first in order to catch up with the second. 'Whether or not the experiment is due to the fact that the studio has a couple of stars who fit nicely into the scheme, the idea has possibilities. Dore Schary, who contributes to the scripts of both pictures and who did a very good job for Tracy aud Rooney in “Boys’ Town.” points out that the complete separation of the stories of Edison’s boyhood and manhood will avoid the inevitable ambiguity which occurs in all pictures in which a boy suddenly blossoms into a young man without, any apparent resemblance whatsoever.

OLARK GABLE’S next film is to be “Alaska.” He will play a priest.
