SHOES have played an important part in the laugh-life of many comedians both ou stage and screen. Their size, shape, or, more often, lack of shape, and their grotesque character Have very often become the symbols distinguishing a very funny’ man. Stan Laurel, who is again co-starred with Oliver Hardy in “A Uhump At Oxford, uses a simple but comical device in bis foot gear. All of Stan's shoes, when he is on the set. are bereft of heels. Presenting an almost flat surface from toe to heel, they serve a two-fold purpost First, they give the comedian a strange rolling gait. Secondly, they present a woe-begone appearance.
