Competing At Lower Hutt
Tomorrow
A number ol notable New Zealand athletes, including C. H. Alatthews (Christchurch), the British Empire three-mile and six-mile champion, will compete at the "Wellington provincial country clubs’ amateur athletic championships and AlcVilly Shield competition, to be held at the Hutt Recreation Ground tomorrow. The meeting will begin in the afternoon and will be concluded at night. Alatthews will run. during the night session in a two-mile event, in which, subject to suitable, opposition, lie may attempt the New Zealand record for the distance. A. J. Alackuy, Wellington provincial three-mile champion, and T. Bartlett are expected to be two of his opponents. It is possible that Alatthews may also run during the afternoon session. AV. Pullar, national one-inile and threemile champion, has entered for the 880 yds., one mile and three-mile championships. and J. P. Eastwood, formerly of Wellington, for the 100yds., 220yds., and 440yds. championships. Other prominent competitors will be F. Taylor, provincial half-mile champion ; C. Dickie, the Canterbury one-mile champion ; Miss _Jt Crampton, provincial women’s sprint clia<ipion; N. McCarthy, the New Zealand walking champion ; and C. Robinson, the national 220yds. champion. In addition there will be J. Barron (Nelson), a promising miler, and W. Russell (Eketahuna), a long jump and hop, step and jump specialist. The juniors include H. Potter, the Wellington secondary schools’ sprint champion, and F. C. Martin and B. J. Ryan.
