SHIP DESERTERS SENT TO JAIL
By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 11. It was a serious matter for men to leave their vessels, specially us one had done in time of war, said the magistrate, Mr. J. Molding, in the Magistrates Court, when sending two deserters to prison for one month. Thomas John Hockadny, aged 24, pleaded guilty. The police said he had signed on in London and deserted in Wellington. William Dobson, aged 23, liairdresser, a New Zealander, admitted deserting at Lyttelton in January of last year. The police said he called at the Newmarket police station today ou another matter ami it was discovered that lie was wanted on a warrant on the present charge, lie had recently joined up with the army. hut. had been declared medically un fit.
