Though the tar-sealing programme of the Main Highways Board is now well advanced, there are a number of stretches on main roads in the Auckland district where thick dust has proved a discomfort to motorists over the holiday season. With no recent rain to set the surface, one of the worst patches is on the main road to the north between Albany and Waiwera. With heavy traffic using the route on Sunday and New Year's Day, motorists drove for some miles in an almost continuous cloud of dust.
