MAGISTRATES’ COURT

Fines of £1 were imposed on Thomas Joseph Tempest, waterside:-, aged 39. John Fotlieringham McAuley, labourer, aged 23, and John Robert Samuels, butcher, aged 19, when they appeared before Mr. Stilwell. S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday, charged with lighting at the Exhibition on Saturday night. All defendants pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector E. T. C. 'l’urner, who prosecuted, said that McAuley and Samuels had been visiting the Exhibition Crazy House when Tempest, who was riding on the revolving wheel, lost bis hat. Someone picked it up and placed it on McAuley’s head. Tempest apparently thought, that McAuley had taken the hat and when the men left the Crazy House the light started. For using obscene language near the Central Library, Leslie Leon Wilson, labourer, aged 49, was fined £l. Leonard William Beach, labourer, aged 54, was fined 30/- for a breach of a prohibition order.
