SOVIET PAVILION AT WORLD FAIR
Withdrawal Welcomed
NEW YORK, December 21
Mr. George Harvey, president of Queen’s Borough in which the World Fair is located, proclaimed ir halfholiday for borough employees to celebrate the removal of the Russian pavilion. Mr. Harvey urged private employers to do likewise.
“I am sure people feel as 1 do,” he said, “jubilant at the withdrawal of a symbol so violently contrasting with the Government which makes possible our own peaceful Christmas. I hope American flags will be displayed throughout the borough to mark the official exit of an unwelcome guest.”
Officials of the World Fair announced on December 1 that the Soviet was dismantling its 3,000.000-dollar pavilion, one of the fair’s outstanding attractions. The Soviet would not participate in the fair during 1940, an explanation for which was promised later.
