PLAZA THEATRE
"Susannah of the Mounties” released at the Plaza Theatre, will be a hut favourite with Shirley- Temple’s many admirers, and particularly with her thousands of friends among the children in the audience. Randolph Scott and Alargaret Lockwood are in this film, too, to become, after much romance and thrills, the foster-parents of Shirley. Shirley is the only survivor of a settler's caravan which has been raided and massacred by Indians. She is found, fortunately, by Randolph Scott, an officer in the North \\ est mounted police, and is taken home by him to, be left in the care of his orderly (J. Farrell AlacDonald). She is a happy and carefree youngster, and is soon very much at home in this male household, developing a real friendship for both men. Times are difficult because .of unrest on the part of the Indians, who are having an outburst of raiding and robbery, and in an effort to get to the bottom Of the trouble the police arrange tor a .pew-wow with an important Indian Chief (who, under his savage skill, is really Alaurice Aloscovitch). This chief is a good Indian, and leaves his own son with the pvhite men as hostage, not knowing that one of his tribe (\ictor Jorv) was in fact the cause of all the trouble. The Indian youngster, who does know, passes he word along t" Shirley, under a promise that she will do nothing in the meantime, i Then, in a. railroad camp, the Indian horse-thieves try to sell horses which are recognized, and, in the argument which follows, Jory is ordered to leave and is threatened with a call for the militia. Jorv, however is a real bad egg, and works his followers up to the point at which they attack the whites. Even Randolph Scott is captured, but that is bad medicine for the redskins, because it spurs Shirley to get away and report the affair to the friendly chief. She does this successfully, and having put in a good word for the peaceful intentions Of the mounted police becomes- exceedingly happy when Scott marries Alargaret Lockwood, and adopts the youngster who saved his live. • « This is very good Shirley -lemple material, with a special appeal to children. "Stanley And Livingstone.”
Happenings that thrilled the world in days igone by will be recalled with Jhe release of “Stanley and Livingstone a Darryl F. Zanuek production, at the I laza Theatre early next year. Spencer Tracy, twice winner of an award by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, as the heroic adventure-re porter, who risked his life to r ind Livingstone!” in the black heart of unknown ‘Africa, gives a performance worthy of himself and the part he play**, and be is supported staunchly by Nancy Kelly and Richard Greene.
