CREW OF COLUMBUS
Christmas On Ellis Island
(Received December 22, 9.20 p.m.)
NEW YORK, December 21.
Immigration inspectors have now examined the graded crew off the scuttled German liner Columbus. Bona fide distressed seamen are entitled l to remain 60 days in the United States, but pending the examination of the remainder and the completion of formalities, they will remain on Ellis Island over Christmas. In order to prevent a repetition of the Langsdorff tragedy, officials have assigned two officers of the Columbus to share the sleeping quarters of Captain Daehne.
