MAKOGAI LEPERS
Response To Appeal The following letter has been received from Messrs. T. Fletcher- Telford, M.D., P. K. Climie, J.P., and P. J. Twomey, trustees of the Makog'ai Lepers (N.Z.) Trust Board:— “We wish to thank the public for the magnificent response made to the appeal for the lepers at Makogai. Altogether we received the splendid sum of £4574 in cash, and about 100 cases of useful goods. “Because of the unsettled times we have advised Dr. C. J. Austin, the medical superintendent, to conserve and lay aside some money for future years. There are now 635 patients on the island, and the result of our appeal will enable all the patients (particularly Hie bed-ridden ones) to receive little delicacies and gifts on numerous occasions during the year. “In July last* we formed an Incorporated Trust Board of 15 gentlemen to continue these appeals for suffering humanity, and we wish to express our personal appreciation of the confidence that has been placed in our board. “In conclusion we express the wish that all who helped the appeal in any way whatsoever may share in the joy of the patients at Christolits time.”
