Deanna Durbin Maintains Her Reputation
THOI'GU (he plot of the film might not appeal to some older people. “First Love,” the latest of Deanna Durbin's pictures contains some brilliant characterizations. The singing of Deanna Durbin also makes rhe picture well worth seeing, for she fully maintains the high reputation which she has gained by her previous performances. It is several years since Deanna first appeared on the screen, and the producers have wisely given her older parts as she has grown older. In "First Love" she takes the part of a girl dependent ou rich relations, and falls very deeply in love with a wealthy young man. Her cousin endeavours to spoil the romance. Helen Parrish, who takes the part of the cousin, lias appeared in other films with Deanna, and she gives a good interpretation of the part of a selfish young woman with no consideration for the feelings of others. Robert Stack, as the male lead, acquits himself well. “First Love” will be showing in Wellington' at Christmas.
