First Prosecution Of Kind In Wellington
In the first case of its kind heard in. Wellington, Edwin John Francis Smith, fireman, was yesterday fined £2 and ordered to pay cos*ts for having liquor in his possession when bo was in the vicinity of the Maybelle dance hall aid attending a public dance there. Mr. Stout, S.M., was on the bench. Sub-Inspector E. I’. C. Turner said that a constable saw defendant standing outside the hall drinking beer out of a bottle. Defendant admitted that he was attending the dance. There had been complaints about patrons of the dance hall consuming liquor,.
