Investigations carried out. by the police reveal that a skeleton which was found iu the Kaipa.ru Harbour last week is of considerable age, and it is believed to have come from an old Maori burial ground. The skeleton was. discovered by Mr. J. Stanaway. of Dargaville, at high-water mark jit Motukamara Point, opposite Tinopal. Local Maoris believe that the sea Ims eaten its way into the land at this point and has washed away part of a former burial ground. Only the skull and teeth were in good condition, the remainder of the bones crumbling to dust when touched.
