ART SOCIETIES
Annual Meeting Held A decision not to import any lectures or slides from America this year was made at the annual meeting of the association of New Zealand Art Societies in Wellington recently. Instead, a subcommittee was set up to investigate the matter of preparing lectures and slides in New Zealand for distribution to member societies during 1940. Mr. R. O. Gross presided till the new president, Dr. A. D. Carbery, was elected. The following societies were represented :— Auckland Society of Arts, Messrs. K. O. Gross and Harry Atkinson; Waikato Art Society, Dr. Carbery; Hawke’s Bay Art Society, Messrs. L. D. Bestall and R. Hipkins; New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, Dr. Carbery and Dr. R. Stout; Nelson Suter Art Society, Mr. R. J. Waghorn; Otago Society of Arts, Mr. Basil Honour; New’ Zealand Institute of Architects, Messrs. W. M. Page and G. F. Wilson. The election of officers resulted: President, Dr. A. D. Carbery; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. C. Schneider; hon. auditor, Mr. E. W. Hunt.
