N.Z. AMATEUR ROAD CYCLING TITLE
Big Race In Wellington Tomorrow The 1939 New Zealand amateur road cycling championship will be decided tomorrow over a course of 100 kilometres. The race is to start at 1.30 p.m. from the Grand National Hotel, Petone, and will finish at the starting point. It will be a real test of riding ability and stamina, as the competitors will be required to negotiate the «teep Mangaroa and Rimutaka hills, the turning point being a flat portion of the road at the foot of the Rimutakas and on the Wairarapa side. Mr. A. R. Thomas, patron of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association, will present the championship sash and medallions at an afternoon tea gathering at the end of the race, which should finish at approximately 4.30 p.m. With the exception of Hawke’s Bay, each cycling centre in the Dominion will be represented aud the Auckland and Christchurch teams have already arrived at 'Wellington. The Otago representatives will arrive this morning. The race is the first of the centennial sports fixtures and the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association will give a reception and dinner to visiting riders tonight.
