New Zealand Doctor’s Work In London
LEAVE EXTENDED
Dominion Special Service
AUCKLAND, October 8.
“Competent authorities in London are of the opinion that the research work being conducted there by Dr. A M. Begg, a New Salander, appears to be more fruitful than any other undertaken for some time,” stated Sir Janies Elliott, who has just returned from a visit to England. Dr. Begg who is Director of Cancer Research in the Dominion has had extended his leave of absence to continue his work at Mill Hill Laboratory in an investigation of the cause of the disease. “His retention in London is a great compliment to Dr. Begg and a justification of the work being done by the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society,” said Sir James, who is president of the branch. "Originally Dr. Begg was given a year’s leave of absence from Otago University to study and take a refresher course, but the importance of the work in which lie was engaged prompted Dr. Gye, under whom he is working at Mill Hill, to request an extension of the leave period.
