WANGANUI, October 7.
School children in the Wanganui education district totalled 15,535, a decrease of 147 ou the previous year, stated the annual report of the Wanganui Education Board.
Of the total 15,220 were primary and 315 secondary. The primary roll shows a decrease of 99 and the secondary roll an increase of 48. Of the total roll, 8086 were boys and 7467 were girls, the percentages of 52 and 48 respectively being the same as during the past two years. The roll included 1052 Maori children, an increase of S 3 over the previous year; there were 561 boys and 491 girls in attendance at 81 schools. The average weekly roll number for the year was 15,260, compared with 15,327 for the previous year, and the average attendance was 13,463, or 88.22 per cent, of the average roll. This average was considerably lower than the normal figure, the decrease being mainly because of the severe epidemic of measles during the second and third terms of last year.
