PUBLIC SERVICE RUGBY MATCH
Manawatu Beat Wellington

PALMERSTON N., October 7. A good deal of interest was taken in the Rugby match between teams representing the Manawatu and Wellington branches of the Public Service Sports Society, played on Palmerston North showground today. There was some disappointment at the absence of Taylor and Tindill from the Wellington team because of injury and sickuess. A closely-fought match was won by Manawatu by, 18 points to 15. Manawatu had all the better of the first spell, during which they put on most: of their points. In the second spell the visitors made a much better showing, particularly the forwards, and at one stage headed Mauawatu's score. Manawatu, however, came again, and fully deserved their win. Scorers for Manawatu were 1.. Findlay, Monk, Fitch, Little (tries). Carr (field goal I, and Stewart, who converted a try. Tries for Wellington were scored by Fulton (three)’ and Cochrane (two), none being converted. The teams were :— Wellington: Dance, Cochrane. Fulton, Burns, Jones, Davidson, King, Foley, Meades, McLean, Fitzpatrick, Carrodus. Cooper, Kirschberg, Stevens. Manawatu: Carr, Little, Stewart. Robinson, Black, Gonley. Monk. Findlay. Fitch, McKenzie. Thurston, McCashin, Hunt, Pike, Lewin. Mr. C. Eglinton was referee.
The visitors were afterward entertained at dinner and a dance.
