LONDON MARKETS
Careful, Selective Buying By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received October 8, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 7. Business on the London Stock Exchange markets has not been large but there is evidence of careful, selective buying. Growing confidence in the ability of the authorities to maintain easy money conditions has helped all markets. Insurance, bank, aircraft, gas, electric, brewery, motor, newspaper and retail store shares have all sustained heavy losses since the outbreak of war. Pood, tobacco and building material shares have fared better, while iron, steel, coal, chemical and rubber shares are little changed since August 31. Bull markets have been established in shipping, textile, base metal and oil LONDON, October 6. The stock and share markets generally held their prices after Herr Hitler’s speech. Commodity markets remain very quiet but changes are insignificant. The increase in the rubber quota to 79 per cent, much surprised the market.
