Placing Of New Forces
LONDON, September 26.
Paris radio announced that a large part of the German armies which participated in the Polish campaign have been transferred to the Western. Front and are being concentrated at Aix-la-Chapelle (near Belgium) and in the Black Forest (on the Rhine front). Military circles in Paris state that owing to the rapid occupation of Poland, Germany could place 100 divisions on the Western Front. The Geneva correspondent of “The Times” says that it is officially announced that Switzerland is building defences in the interior to supplement the existing double line of fortifications.

The publication of the German “White Book,” following closely on the British publication of all official documeats relating to events leading to the outbreak of war, is interpreted here as an indication that there is some uneasiness in Nazi circles • The “Daily Telegraph says that, un able to challenge the accuracy of the British report, the Nazis are endeavouring to counter it with “half or quarter truths.” It must be very grievous to Dr Goebbels that truth has had a start. The object of the German publication is to make it appear that Britain is responsible for the war. It is necessary therefore, to make a case on the basis that a British guarantee was given before Poland refused to submit to the Nazi demands. The facts are, as already repeatedly stated, that Herr Hitler made demands on March 21, , while the assuranceof French and Bri- | tish support was not announced till ; March 31. FORTUNES OF NAZIS j Leaders’ Extravagance ■ LONDON, September 26. ! A statement by the Ministry of Information cites “authoritative” sources in reply to Dr. Goebbels’s demal that Nazi leaders have accumulated fortunes abroad. This refers to Dr. Goebbels’s sumptuous parties, his private extravagances, and the immediate withdrawal of a dim depicting his luxurious home life. The statement mentions Field-Mar-shal Goering’s possession of -12 motorcars, his expenditure of half a million marks for a hunting expedition, his demands for museum pieces in order to decorate his homes, and gives other instances of his ostentation. DIVISION OF ZONES OF INFLUENCE Reported Agreement By Germany And Russia BUCHAREST, September 26. In private quarters it is reported that Russia and Germany have agreed to a division of zones of influence in Eastern Europe. Under the agreement, Rumania and the Balkan States will come under the Nazi sphere and the Baltic States under the Russian sphere. SERVICE OVERSEAS British Minimum Age LONDON, September 26. The Seeretarj’ for War, Mr. L. IloreBelisha, stated in the House of Commens that it was not the Government s policy to send overseas anyone younger than 19 years, but at present none under 20 was going. FUNERAL OF GENERAL VON FRITSCH LONDON, September 26. Berlin reports that Field-Marshal Goering represented Herr Hitler at the funeral of General von Fritsch, whom General von Brauehitsch hi an oration described as most loyal to the Fuehrer, the people, and the army, and one of the best Prussians the army had ever had.
