YOUNG FLYER KILLED
Old Boy Of New Plymouth High School
Dominion Special Service.
NEW PLYMOUTH, September 27. Cabled advice that their son, Midshipman John Clutha Casey, was killed while undergoing Hying training, has been received by Mr. and Mrs- J. 1. Casey, Wallace Place, New Plymouth. Air. John Casey was 21 years of age and was an old boy of the New lb mouth Boys’ High School. He left school to join the Royal Air Force, and after preliminary training at Mangere aerodrome, Auckland, he went to England in August, 1938, ami was appointed to the Fleet Air Arm. With the Fleet Air Arm he did his first training on His Majesty’s aircraftcarrier Hermes and later served for a period on the recently-torpedoed air-craft-carrier Courageous. From the Courageous he was transferred f° r special training. Air. Casey was at the high school from 1932 to 1936. He returned in 1937 and took a section of his accountancy examination before leaving again to join tlie Air Force. Ho was a prominent pupil at the school, whgre he was company sergeant-major of the cadets and captain of the third Rugby fifteen.
