RUMOURS DENIED

Mishap To Maui Pomare

Rumours about ,-the Government motor-ship Maul Pomare were disposed of by a statement issued yesterday by the Acting-Minister of External Affairs, Mr. Daugstone. The Maui Pomare, which is now in a New Zealand port, experienced engine trouble on her recent voyage, and was assisted by the Government lighthouse, steamer 51atai.

Mr. Langstone said that the mishap was not in any way due to malicious interference with the ship’s machinery, and that there was no injury to the crew or to tlie ship. The fruit cargo being brought to New Zealand was landed in good condition. The publication of the facts of the case should dispose of somewhat alarming rumours that had been circulating about the Maui Pomnre, Mr. Langstone added.
