Vice-Regal. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Galway, presided at a meeting of the Executive Council yesterday morning.
Sir George Shirteliffe, accompanied by Lady Shirteliffe, hast returned to New Zealand, after a seven weeks’ holiday visit to New Guinea. Major-General Sir John Davidson, K.C.M.G., has been appointed deputychairman of the board of directors of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., according to advice received by the New Zealand superintendent of the company. Mr. W. A. Boucher arrived at Wellington yesterday from Auckland by the Limited express.
Mr. H. M. Mackay has been re-elected president of the Otago Expansion League.
Dr. L. A. Bennett, Christchurch, returned south from Wellington last night by the steamer express. Mr. Alfred Hill, the musician and composer, who has been living in Auckland for some months, is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. R. T. M. Edwards has returned to New Zealand after attending the all-Australia Rotary Conference in Sydney. Mr. A. Wyness, managing director of His Master’s Voice (N.Z.), Ltd., returned to Wellington yesterday after a business visit to the South Island. Mr. C. M. Turrell, Wellington, general manager of the New Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd., left for the south last night by the steamer express. Professor G. S. Peren, Massey Agricultural College, Palmerston North, was a passenger from Wellington by the steamer express for the South Island last night.
Mr. John Dunlop, Seaward Downs, and Air. W. D Palmer, Invercargill, arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Cool Stores’ Association.
Mr. 11. Valentine, second assistant general manager of the Railways Department and Mr. A. W. Wellsted, commercial manager, travelled south from Wellington last night by the steamer express.
Mr. John Coyle, se. rotary to the Dungog Hospital Board, New South Wales, is visiting New Zealand on holiday. Mr. Coyle was secretary to the Wellington Hospital Board for .15 years and later was secretary to the Newcastle Hospital Board. He is accompanied by Mrs. Coyle. Dr. J. A. Watson has been appointed port health oliicer in Auckland. He has acted in this capacity at various times during the past .10 years. Provision has been made for the position to be kept open for Dr. Watson while he is on duty with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
Lieut.-Colonel G. T. Hall, C.M.G., C.8.E., V.D., J.P., was presented by the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association at: the monthly luncheon yesterday with a certificate “in grateful recognition of outstanding service rendered for the benefit of ex-servicemen generally.” His name was placed on the association’s special honours list
