A rating n H.M.S. Leander, Frank Ernest Victor Harris, engineer, nged 34, was remanded to appear before the naval authorities when lx- came before Mr. J. 11. Luxlord. S.M., in the Magislrentes’ Court. Wellington, yesterday. He was charged with stealing a motor-car valued at £2Ol. belonging to Clarence U. Young. Detective-Sergeant. I’. Doyle eaid Harris deserted from the Navy ami stole the motor-car in Devon port., Auckland, last January. He drove to Tauranga, where he obtained a position. lie removed the registration plates from the car and substituted fake ones which he painted to resemble the new plates. He drove the car all over the North Island and eventually to Wellington, where be obtained another position under a fictitious name. The car was- still in his possession when he was arrested on 'Tuesday.
