WORK OF HOUSE

Adjournment Suggested

A suggestion that Parliament should merely adjourn when the business before it was completed and that tin? session should not be formally. concluded, was made by Mr. Wilkinson (Independent, Egrnont) during the debate on the War Expenses Bill in the House of Representatives last night. Mr. 'Wilkinson said that legislation would be necessary to empower the Government to send a military force overseas. If this step became necessary perhaps at- a moment’s notice, there would be an advantage in Parliament having merely adjourned.

The War Expenses Bill was put through all stages and passed in . the House of Representatives last night. Though urgency had also been taken for the Customs Amendment Bill, this measure was not proceeded with. The House rose at 1.30 a.m. till this afternoon.
