GERMAN CLAIM
Offer Of Surrender Of Warsaw The German High Command yesterday claimed that the Polish commander of Warsaw has offered to surrender the town and the garrison. The offer was made on Tuesday after the first line of forts in the north and the second line of forts in the south had been taken. The communique states also that German troops are approaching the line of demarcation agreed on by Russia and Germany but, it does not state whether they are approaching tlie line or retreating before the Russians. Polislt sources in Bucharest say that the Rumanian Government lias seized half ihc gold reserve of Poland, £25,500,000. The other half is said to have been shipped already. Rumania has made no statement, but it is said that the gold was seized 'because Rumania must have the gold to pay for what she has to sjiend on Polish refugees.— By radio. ON WEST FRONT A French official communique states that the night was quiet but the German artillery was active on the rear of the French line near Wissemburg. Military observers in France say that the French artillery has smashed a hole in the Siegfried Line between Merzig and Saarbrucken. — By radio.
