♦ ■ Vice-Regal. At his office in Government Buildings yesterday morning, his Excellency the Goveipior-General, Lord Galway, received Major-General J. E. Duigan. In the afternoon his Excellency formally opened the Wellington Horticultural Society’s spring show in the Town Hall. He was accompanied by her Excellency, Lady Galway.
The Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., Tai Tapu, was a passenger from the south yesterday by the steamer express.
The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, M.P. for Kaipara, arrived from the north yesterday by the Limited express.
Mr. C. G. Macindoe, Auckland, arrived at Wellington yesterday by train from the north. Dr. G. H. Cunningham, Auckland, arrived from the north yesterday by the Limited express.
Mr. H. R. Spanjer, Christchurch, was a passenger from tlie south yesterday by the steamer express.
Mr. E. R. Grace, Dunedin, South Island delegate to the Australasian Institute of Secretaries, is attending the annual meeting of the institute at Auckland.
Mr. James Fletcher, Auckland, arrived from the north yesterday by the Limited express. Mr. and Mrs. W. Fletcher, Auckland, also were passengers by the train. Mr. W. J. Moodabe, governing director of Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., will arrive at Wellington by the Limited express from Auckland this morning.
The, Rev. W. Bower Black, St. David’s Church, Auckland, and Mrs. Black, who have 'been absent since January on a visit to Britain and the Continent, are expected in Auckland soon.
Dr. D. U. Strang has been appointed to the staff of the pathological department at the Auckland Hospital, in succession to Dr. K. McNamara, who has resigned to take up a position in Australia.
It was stated yesterday that .Mr. Godfrey Magnus, of Magnus Motors Ltd., is now on his way to New Zealand on his return from a visit to England. Mr. Magnus is now in the United .Slates and will not leave for the Dominion till toward the end of next month.
Dr. C. D. Henry, Wellington, surgeoa-iu-chief of the St. John Ambulance Brigade for the Dominion, has been compelled to tender his resignation in consequence of ill-health, and has been posted to tho reserve. Dr. Henry has had a long association with the brigade. Tlie vacant position of surgeon-In-eliief has been filled by the appointment of Sir Louis E. Barnett, at present Otago district surgeon. Sir Louis Barnett's connexion with the order extends over four decades, and he has done much to assist, the advancement of its work in. New Zealand.
