Determination To Resist Violation LONDON, September 24. The Brussels correspondent of “The Times” says that Burgomaster Max, in a speech in connexion . with the commemoration of the Belgian Revolution of 1830, declared: — “We are determined to resist any new violation of our territory and not to allow ourselves to be impressed by threats.” The Brussels correspondent of the Reuter news agency says that camouflaged artillery and machine-guns have been strongly installed and are permanently manned on Belgian frontier roads. A correspondent of “Le Soir” on the Belgo-German frontier describes unusual quietude in Germany, where the villages are deserted. The Germans are still working to complete the Siegfried Line. Twenty German soldiers to whom he spoke did not know of the French offensive and were completely ignorant regarding the war and convinced that normal conditions would return within a week. Belgium, Holland and Switzerland continue their military precautions, says the Paris correspondent of the “New York Times.” It is confirmed that the Belgian flood system is operating at points near the German border. It is admitted that the dikes were opened for four hours and that special troops.are testing the water defences. Basle reports that German troop movements continue north of Basle and that German planes frequently fly over the frontier. FRENCH CONSOLIDATE GAINS LONDON, September 24. A French communique states: — “Numerous local attacks on our advanced positions north of Weissenburg (on the French right) were repulsed during the night.” The Paris correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says that the French admit that the German attacks on the west front, which are increasing in strength, are important, though they do not believe the Nazi forces have vet been heavily augmented. The French penetration of German territory has been halted in order to consolidate the gains made. The German divisions on this front, are estimated to total 300,000 men, excluding motorized divisions. EXPLOSION IN TUNNEL OF SIEGFRIED LINE (Independent Cable Service.) (Received September 25, 11.5 p.m.) LONDON. September 25. It is reported from Brussels that an explosion occurred in the underground tunnels pf the Siegfried line near Minden and caused extensive damage, holding up work on the line.
