Assault On Wife Admitted MAGISTRATES’ COURT On Saturday night William Robertson Hislop, labourer, aged 20. bad an altercation with his wife, gave her a black eye, and later punched her on the nose. When he appeared in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington yesterday before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., it w,as stated by the police that last June he had a similar argument with Mrs. Hislop. Accused, who pleaded guilty to the charge of assault, told the magistrate that his reason for hitting his wife was that he had heard her make arrangements to go out with another man. “You got away with it last time; you won’t on this occasion. One month hard labour,” said the magistrate. “Give mo n chance; i'll try to get into camp and get away,” said Patrick Ernest Furlong Collins, aged 65, who was charged with stealing goods valued at £2. “They won't take you at your age, I’m afraid,” said the magistrate, who imposed a sentence of one month's jail. Collins was described as a particularly bad petty thief, who was making his twenty-ninth apimaram-e before the Court.
