FORECAST FOR TODAY’S WEATHER.
Fairly Widespread Rain; Moderate Temperatures. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 48 hours ending 3 p.m. today Dull in Marlborough and over most of the North Island, with fairiy widespread rain and likelihood of heavy falls in the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay area. Conditions later improving from the north and west. Temperatures moderate, but with the possibility of some frosts tonight in Otago and Southland. An anticyclone extends from eastern Australia on to the South Island. Another depression is located near Cape Maria van Diemen and appears to be moving south-eastward. . . , . , The forecast is for winds between easterly and southerly predominating; fresh to strong in force in exposed positions from Cook Strait northward, but otherwise light to moderate. Seas in New Zealand waters rather rough about Cook Strait and on the east coast from Kaikoura northward; elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising north of Farewell Spit. , South-easterly to southerly winds m the eastern lasman Sea: strong in the northern portion, with rough seas; moderate in the southern portion, with slight seas.
