SPRING MEETING
Wellington Trotting Club
The grounds at the Hutt Park presented a particularly attractive appearance on Saturday afternoon when the spring meeting of the \\ ellingtoii Trotting Club was held. The upstairs lounge commands a view of a delightful panorama of valley and harbour. The turf, emerald-green after the wiu ter, the nearby plantation of giant, pine trees, Ute encircling bills with their spring mantle of gold, the far pane rama of mountains just slightly powdered with snow, and, to the south, the blue, hill-encircled sunlit waters of the harbour combined in creating a prospect of perfect spring beauty. Orange hangings and cushions provided a pleasant contrast to the sof’ brown tints of the lounge, and bowls of yellow iceland poppies and cinerarias were used for Horul decoration. Tubs of palms completed an effective decora five scheme. In the light, commodious dining-room, spring bulbs were used on the official table and small tea-tables. Mrs. J. E. August, the president’s wife, wore a smart, black pin-striped tailored suit and a spray of orchids, with a black felt hat with high, uneven crown and fancy brim turned up all round.
