Potatoes From British Columbia
Sir, —May I ask you to publish this cutting from “The Colonist,” Victoria. 8.C., dated August 27, 1939?
VANCURVER. Aug. 26 (CP).—-A shipment of 1000 tons of Lower Mainland potatoes will be loaded on the Aorangi when she sails for New Zealand from here next week. Exporters explained that the shipment, largest ever sent to New Zealand from Vancouver, was due to a shortage of the vegetable in that country.
I read the report with amazement, thinking it extraordinary that a farming country like New Zealand should have to send for 1000 tons of potatoes from what is considered _ a nonagricultural country like British Columbia. Particularly when there is such a big list of goods not allowed to be imported.—l am, etc., ANNIE HAG GEN (MRS.), Victoria, 8.C., August 30.
