MOVE FOR HIGHER WAGE TAX

-■ 1 — Unemployment Relief In New South Wales SYDNEY, August 25. In the Legislative Assembly, tje Treasurer, Mr. A. Richardson, introduced a Bill yesterday to increase the wages tax and also to establish a special fund for unemployment relief. Mr. Richardson explained that the Government was compelled to obtain additional revenue because of the adverse season and the low prices for primary products. The wages tax increase becomes operative on September 1. The extent to which the wages tax is to be increased is not disclosed in Mr. Richardson’s Bill. The Treasurer stated that the Commissioner of Taxation would collect two taxes as on" tax from wages and would determine the percentages to be apportioned to unemployment relief and social services respectively. The Bill has been held over till Tuesday.
