MORAL REARMAMENT

Lord Halifax’s Message To World Assembly

The Oxford Group, Wellington, has received the following copy of a cable message sent by Lord Halifax, British Foreign Secretary, to the World Assembly for Moral Rearmament in California :—

“I am very’ glad to add my greetings to thos4 of so many thousands of my fellow countrymen who have joined in a national message to the World Assembly for Moral Rearmament in California. Fresh insistence in thought and action on those principles of morality and faith, which are fundamental, will not only 7 build national well-beiu” but is the only source from which we may draw the sure hope of peace and prosperity for a disturbed world.” Among statesmen of other countries who sent messages to the Assembly, which was attended by 30,000 people of 30 nations, were the Prime Minister of New. Zealand, Mr. Savage; the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Hamilton ; the Premier of New South Wales, Mr. Stevens; the Premier of South Australia, Mr. Playford; Sir Samuel Hoare, Sir Kingsley Wood, Generalissimo and Madame Chiang Kai-shek, Baron Hiranuma (Premier of Japan), 30 United States Governors, five Canadian Provincial Premiers, and four Dutch Cabinet Ministers. In addition thousands of citizens from many countries sent messages pledging themselves to support their leaders.
