Copeland, general secretary of the Mutual Life and Citizens’ Assurance Company, Limited, who retired at the end of July after a service of nearly 51 years, was given a eompli mentary luncheon by the directors, trustees and staff, at which the managing director of the company. Mr Arthur Eedy. presented him witl: silver plate suitably inscribed. He will con tinue to be a director of the company His successor will bo Mr. M. C. Alder Mr. 11. Vaughan has been appointed actuary and secretary of the company
Uriah Butler, leader of the oil strike in Trinidad, who was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in December, 193”, for seditious utterances, has been released.
