Prohibition And Property x Tax Sequel LONDON, August 1. fl'he Bombay correspondent of the "Daily Mull” says that the riots arising from the property tax, which was imposed to meet the deficit arising from the new liquor prohibition law, resulted in injury to 56 persons, including 27 police. A crowd of Moslems, who were protesting against the property tax, became disorderly and stoned Hindu onlookers. The police opened fire, wounding 15 persons. A curfew has been instituted for ti fortnight. The prohibition celebrations included a demonstration by 160,000 Moslems and Hindus singing funeral hymns of the “Demon Drink.” a figure representing which was burned by school children. A mass meeting congratulated the Government on bringing in prohibition. Police with fixed bayonets are watching strategic points with orders to fire on rioters.
