SURE TO DO GOOD
Frankness Approved By Mr. Eden LONDON, July 31. Speaking in the debate in the House of Commons, Mr. Anthony Eden (Conservative) said that Mr. Chamberlain’s frankness, particularly in connexion with the Russian negotiations, was bound to do good. He asked the Government, if there were still political differences, to enlarge the military mission to a political one so that someone could talk with M. Stalin personally and finish the whole thing in a week.
Turning to the Far East, Mr. Eden said that Japan had not only failed to conquer China but the end of the war was more remote titan ever. The Chinese morale and organization had made a remarkable recovery since the autumn. The Government would fiud support in every section of opinion in Britain if it was necessary to s|»eak in plair. terms to Japan. He added that Danzig was no longer an issue-. the Nazis tailed the town, had sitp- ''cssed other political parties, and exp -:ied Jews, and sought to impose on Poland the fate of Czechoslovakia. Only an effective peace front would avert war.
