HUTT CRICKET CLUB
Successful Year Reported The annual report of the Hutt Cricket Club states that the past season was one of the most successful enjoyed, the membership being well maintained. Satisfaction is expressed at increasing attendances of the public, and it izs stated that attention will be given to providing extra seating accommodation. “After a lapse of two seasons the club was successful in securing the engagement of the Wellington Cricket Association’s coach for a day’s coaching each week,” the report continues. “A regrettable feature was the apathy of some of the younger members who were given the opportunity of receiving coaching. A. close examination of performances shows that those who paid strict attention to their practice and heeded the sound advice of the coach benefited greatly, and proves that Mr. Sheffield’s, appointment was a great- success, and an excellent investment for the future of players of the club. ikttendances, however, were disappointing after Christmas. The committee is considering a scheme of more concentrated coaching during the pre-Christmas period.” The senior team had been the runnersup for the championship and the junior B2 team had won the grade championship and the Fairburn Shield. Other teams had also done well. The 801 l Cup had been awarded to B. J. Chainpness, for ■ securing seven wickets for 76 runs, against Wellington. Representative honours were given to Messrs. C. Jarvis, J. Kemp, J. Capstick, and R. Roberts. The financial position of the club is satisfactory.
